Monstrance reliquary

This reliquary resulted from the transformation or re-use of a previous reliquary. The relics of Pope Saint Gregory, of Emperor Henry II of Bavaria, of Cunégonde of Bamberg, Saint Victor d’Agaune and of the martyr Xanten are preserved under glass, set in a silver oval. The know-how of the workshop of Hugo d’Oignies can be seen in the foot of the reliquary, but it is probable that the remainder of the work dates from a later period and is the work of the Namur artist Henri Libert.

A monstrance is a portable reliquary used for exhibiting relics.
